Empowering Staff to Control their Data
Good day NBFIRA,
The Month of January 2026 marks 1-year anniversary after commencement of the Data Protection Act, 2024. The Authority has made huge strides in bringing the road towards being compliant. Our IT Department should be commended for being proactive in implementation of technical safeguards for the protection of personal data processed by the Authority.
As we celebrate the International Data Privacy Day, the Authority wants to focus on empowering staff to control their data and capacitate them on managing digital footprints in the versatile digital environment where our focus should be about addressing challenges like Artificial Intelligence.
In managing their digital footprints staff members are encouraged to take control of their personal data by;
- Reviewing privacy settings (browser, apps to limit data sharing and control what is collected)
- Being selective about sharing personal data (awareness on posting personal data and granting apps permissions)
- Use of privacy enhanced tools (MFA, 2FA, ad/tracker blockers), some already implemented in the workplace
- Understanding your data subjects rights to build trust between yourself and the employer.
